As the son of a travelling ILO executive, Kevin O’Leary lived and was educated in Cambodia, Cyprus, Tunisia, Ethiopia, France and Switzerland. After getting his MBA, he founded Special Event Television, an independent production company producing such original sports programming as The Original Six, Don Cherry’s Grapevine and Bobby Orr and the Hockey Legends.
In 1986, O’Leary founded SoftKey Software Products (later known as The Learning Company), the first software program company to observe the concepts of consumer items marketing to the software program industry.
Kevin O’Leary invested in many startup companies in Shark Tank, such as, basepaws, a simple DNA test, that can tell you about animals breed, and ultimately their health and habits. Then benjilock, a world’s first traditional rechargeable padlock with fingerprint technology. Then bottle breached, a hand crafted 50 Caliber bottle openers made by Active Duty service members and Veterans, and many more such.
Kevin O’Leary has established himself as the mean, sarcastic investor who either challenges entrepreneurs to better defend their business or else dismisses them as “cockroaches.” But in a pitch featured in the Season 7 finale he dropped the routine, and in a state of being genuinely angry and hurt, called an entrepreneur an asshole and told him to “Get the f— out of here.” The straightforward response and mindset stems from a private golden rule Kevin O’Leary is fiercely proud of: honesty. He believes that honesty is the key aspect to his success — even if his occasionally harsh opinion leads to some tears (and damaged desires for budding entrepreneurs). Kevin O’Leary says “entrepreneurs have to examine that no longer the whole thing works, and I’m there to inform them the truth. That’s why I they call me Mr. Wonderful.” In an interview he says, “Everybody calls me the mean shark on “Shark Tank.” That’s no longer true. I’m the solely shark that tells the truth. In money, it is simply black and white. Either you make it, or you lose it. So you might as properly deal with the fact proper from the get-go. If you are doing some thing it’s going to go bankrupt, why no longer deal with it now, and begin some thing else that possibly will be successful?”
In the same way, Ashneer Grover from Shark Tank India that was on aired December 20, has been termed as ‘Kevin Leary’ of Shark Tank India due to his honesty and straight-forwardness on the show, he has the same terminology for the budding entrepreneurs, the way Kevin O’Leary had on his show, shark tank. Ashneer Grover is the Founder & Managing Director of Bharat Pe, Ashneer Grover was born in Delhi, India on 14 June 1982. He has completed his graduation with Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. On Shark Tank India, Ashneer Grover has the recognition of being the curt and crusty one. While audiences like his straightforwardness, most find him unnecessarily harsh to budding entrepreneurs. Of the seven sharks, he has been the most discouraging to contestants. To one, he said “kuch nahi hai bhai tu” He told another their designer bags look like they’re from Sarojini Nagar. This isn’t the first time Ashneer Grover has apparently gone cold-hearted. In August 2020, he allegedly subjected Harshjit Sethi, the managing director at Sequoia India—one of BharatPe’s early backers—to harsh messages and threats because of a delay in funding.
These are some commoness found by viewers of both the Shark Tank.
