SYL, a song about Punjab’s water crisis, by Sidhu Moose Wala, has been removed from YouTube. The Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal is referred to as SYL. For more than three decades, the 214-kilometre-long Satluj Yamuna Link canal has been a source of conflict between Punjab and Haryana.

The new song, written and recorded by Sidhu Moose Wala before his death in May, was uploaded on YouTube on Friday, June 23 by music producer MXRCI. When you click on the link, however, the video is no longer available, and a warning appears that says, “This content is not available on this country domain owing to a legal complaint from the government.”
Since its release, the song has received over 27 million views and 3.3 million likes on the video streaming platform.
The music video includes images of various militants, including Balwinder Singh Jatana, who was a member of the pro-Khalistan Babbar Khalsa and was suspected of murdering Chief engineer M.L Sikri and Superintendent engineer A.S Aulakh at the SYL office in Chandigarh on July 23, 1990.
Punjab has sought reconsideration of its part of the Ravi-Beas river water, while Haryana has sought completion of the canal in order to receive its portion.
MURDER OF SIDHU MOOSE WALA
Sidhu Moose Wala, a singer-politician, was assassinated on May 29 in Punjab’s Mansa district. Sidhu Moose Wala was killed a day after the state government reduced his security protection. The attack also injured his cousin and a friend who were in the jeep with him.
The Punjab police called the event an inter-gang feud and blamed it on the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Goldy Brar, a member of the Bishnoi gang located in Canada, claimed responsibility for the murder.
The Punjab Police had formed a special investigation team (SIT) to look into the murder, which was overseen by the commander of the anti-gangster task force (AGTF). The Delhi Police recently apprehended two of the principal gunmen in the crime. Priyavrat Fauji (26) and Kashish (26) have been identified as the shooters (24). Police have also recovered a large amount of weapons and explosives.
