Shefali Shah, an actress, has spoken out about not being able to participate in a film after signing on the dotted line. In a new interview, the performer stated that she was replaced with ‘a greater star,’ though she did not name the project or the individual.
Shefali Shah added that she ‘felt bad about it’ and hoped that the director had at least told her of the change of heart. She also stated that it pained her and that she’missed out on a really wonderful part’ as a result of it.
“I don’t know,” Shefali remarked in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, “someone might still sign me for a project and I’d find out the next day that I’m no longer in the programme or the film” (shrugs). You never know what might happen. Look, I’m not sure how people work. As a result, I believe the occurrence had less to do with me and more to do with the perpetrator. Finally, there is no question about who got cast as a greater star. It’s the director’s choice.”
She went on to remark, “It only took someone making that call, or the director calling me and saying, “I’m sorry, but we think xyz fits better for the picture.” That, my friends, is human behaviour, that is simple courtesy… It made me feel terrible. I felt bad, but I also knew the guy they’d selected was a greater star, a star, and I’m not a star, I’m an actor. Of course, it was painful for me. But there was more of a notion of ‘Aare bata toh dete (At least tell me)’. Second, there was a sense of, ‘S*** yaar, I missed out on a really good part,’ and that was it.”
She also stated that she had not met the individual recently, but that she had received a message from someone apologising to her. “I didn’t realise I hadn’t let you know about it,” the individual said to her.
Shefali’s next appearance will be in the upcoming show Human, in which she will play Dr. Gauti Nath. With a compelling tale of murder, mystery, love, and manipulation, the show unravels unexpected secrets of the world of drugs and their impact on people, directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Mozez Singh. On January 14, it will be available on Disney+ Hotstar.
