Ever since Spider-Man: No Way Home was announced, fans have been theorizing about the possibility of multiple Spider-Men appearing in the film. Fans have been analyzing every trailer, image, and poster released by Marvel Studios and Sony to spot any clues related to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s version of Spidey returning. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu decided to troll these fans by sharing an exclusive photograph.

The image in question was taken during a scene from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings when Liu’s Shang-Chi and Awkwafina’s Katy are narrating their story of defeating the Dweller in Darkness to their friends. While it obviously has nothing to do with Spider-Man: No Way Home, Liu took the opportunity to have some fun with the multiple “leaks” on social media and promote his own film.

Before Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings officially released on Disney Plus on November 12, Liu tweeted a reminder to fans who may not have known about the film’s streaming debut. However, while sharing a still from the film, Liu joked about how if fans looked “reaallllly closely [they] can clearly see that Andrew Garfield is definitely not in it.” His trolling is the result of a potential leak from Spider-Man: No Way Home earlier this week.

An image was making the rounds on social media of Maguire and Garfield dressed up as Spider-Men, posing with Tom Holland’s version of the character. Fans claimed it was a still image from Spider-Man: No Way Home, but there is obviously no confirmation for the same. Liu, who is known for being quite active on social media, continued the trend with an image of his Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is the third installment in Holland’s journey of playing Spidey and will follow the events of Spider-Man: Far from Home, where the fan-favorite hero’s true identity is revealed. However, it is already confirmed that the film will feature Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and several villains from previous Spider-Man films.

Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock has already been featured in the official trailer of the film and Green Goblin appears in the new poster released by the studios. The Multiverse could explain why these villains have returned. Now, it remains to be seen whether the Multiverse will truly bring back other versions of Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: No Way Home releases in theaters on December 17, 2021.
