Scarlet Next, the third-person action-RPG from Bandai Namco, has now been available for over seven months. By now, many of Scarlet Nexus’ most-dedicated players have completed the game to their heart’s desire. Yet Bandai Namco isn’t done supporting the game. A new patch released for Scarlet Nexus combines several exciting new additions, perhaps in one last push to bring players back. The update includes a new feature, a new difficulty, and a bit of interesting new content.

The first addition is something Scarlet Nexus players have been asking about since the game launched. With the latest update, Scarlet Nexus now has a Photo Mode that players can use mid-gameplay to take crisp screenshots without the game’s user interface being intrusive. Photo modes are common post-launch additions for games, as developers prioritize other parts of the game prior to launch. Why it took seven months to introduce a photo mode to Scarlet Nexus is a bit of a mystery, but players will nonetheless appreciate it going forward.

Next is the addition of a new game difficulty for Scarlet Nexus. Up until now, Scarlet Nexus has had three difficulty options for players to choose from in Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulties. Bandai Namco is increasing the challenge with its new option, as it’s adding a Very Hard difficulty mode. Exactly how Very Hard will amp up the difficulty hasn’t been described, but players should expect the most challenging version of Scarlet Nexus that Bandai Namco felt like players would enjoy.

The third aspect of the patch introduces some new content to Scarlet Nexus. In Scarlet Nexus, players are able to earn and equip up to three plug-ins. These plug-ins can provide additional stats like defense, health, power, or resistances. Several additional “support plug-ins” are being added as part of the new patch, though how many and their nature isn’t clear.

While those are the three major aspects of the new Scarlet Nexus patch, Bandai Namco does say that there’s “more” included. Odds are that means there will be a variety of balance adjustments and fixes, but it could mean there are some new secrets to discover, too.

Scarlet Nexus might be past its window of peak popularity. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t a dedicated fanbase that would love to return to the game for one more playthrough, or that there aren’t new players waiting for a good reason to try the game out for the first time. Perhaps this Scarlet Nexus update is exactly what the action-RPG needed.

Scarlet Nexus is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
