Rocket League features an assortment of outrageous vehicles that one could only find in a game about cars playing soccer. Having physical representations of them is likely one of the best things a Rocket League fan could get, with one player building and gifting a super detailed Octane model out of leftover scrap metal.
When many think of Rocket League, the battle-car that comes to mind is the Octane, a defining example of the spirit of the game. It is likely the first car that many players will use when starting Rocket League, and due to the optical illusion created by its hitbox, will be a car that many keep returning too. The Octane is a vehicle that exudes the extreme nature of Rocket League, looking almost like a racing buggy with tight cabin, hardly covered wheels, and exaggerated spoiler. There are six hitboxes in Rocket League, with the one being used on the Octane having the most use throughout the entire library of cars.
A Rocket League fan has shared an incredible recreation of the Octane made out of nothing but garage scraps. Nigelthecar posted to the Rocket League subreddit a collection of images showcasing the model, a Secret Santa gift for a friend, and the craftsmanship is a sight to behold. All of the details that can be found on the in-game Octane model are present in nigelthecar’s build, from the intricate engine work in the back, to the shape of the windshield, and the lights in the front. As this is a recreation and not a issued, buildable model, nigelthecar had to get pretty creative with actualizing many of the Octane’s details. For example, looking at the back of the Octane reveals the plethora of washers and nuts nigelthecar used to mimic the exhaust and boost ports. Furthermore, while its unclear whether the model’s wheels actually move, they appear to be comprised of long screws, some sort of metal cuffling, and a rubber cap. The only thing nigelthecar fogot to equip was one of Rocket League’s many insane decals, though the welding alone was probably enough work for one gift.
Considered by many as the best car in Rocket League, it is only fitting that nigelthecar built the Octane for their friend. While there are surely many other elaborate and visually-striking vehicles in the game, it most always the Octane that gets put on the game’s promotions, and what populates matches. The only question that remains is if nigelthecar is going to open up shop and start making more of these models, because as the replies indicate, there are many people out there willing to pay for one of them.
