New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on August 11, 2021) follows:

Update 2.01 for Rocket League went live yesterday bringing along some new features and several fixes. It has been rolled out across all platforms namely PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

The main goal of the patch is to get the game ready for Season 4. ‘Streamer Safe music’ is another major element of the update. It allows listening to the game’s soundtrack without fear of DMCA violations whilst streaming.

But perhaps the most talked-about change are the new penalties for players who quit Casual games early. These penalties are similar to the matchmaking bans for Competitive Playlists.

Leaving a single match per day won’t land you in trouble, but repeatedly quitting will, with each quit increasing the length of the ban.

While the Rocket League community seems to be torn between the implementation of the new penalties, an issue has given a strong point for those arguing against them.

As it stands, Rocket League suffers from occasional server issues. These server issues can sometimes cause a match to get forfeited on its own which is unrightfully causing penalties to get triggered as well.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that the new penalty system will be rolled back.

Freezing and crashing issues on Rocket League after update

Unfortunately, the above isn’t all that’s bothering Rocket League players as there have also been several complaints [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7] saying that the game has been freezing and crashing quite often following the 2.01 Season 4 update.

Going by reports, the freezes are persistent across all platforms be it Xbox, PlayStation, or PC, while the crashes seem to be limited to PC alone.

The freezes occur when on the loading screen, due to which one is unable to load into the game at all.

Another scenario where Rocket League runs into the freezing issues is on the main menu. The main menu shows Season 4, but upon clicking into the app, the main screen says Season 3. Clicking the close button there causes the game to freeze.

Complainants have reportedly already tried booting into safe mode, rebuilding the database, and clearing cache to no avail.

As for crashes, one savvy Redditor has provided an explanation and given a workaround as well. Do note that it is targeted at crashes on Windows 7 alone.

Unfortunately, there is still no sign of an official acknowledgment, so it’s unclear when these issues will be addressed for good.
