Though Apex Legends certainly has its fair share of bugs and issues, some of them end up being unintentionally hilarious, while others may be downright terrifying. The Revenant, for one, was already a terrifying enough presence all on its own, but his Death Totem ultimate can now send his teammates straight to the Shadow Realm in some cases.

Reddit user ghostly249 posted his experience with the Death Totem in Apex Legends, with the video appropriately titled “I sent my squad to hell.” Specifically, what seems to have happened is that the Death Totem bugged out completely, respawning the team just underneath the playable area, in a distorted-looking void where Cthulhu itself may feel right at home.

It goes without saying that the issue is game-breaking for the affected team, but the good news is that players seem to have already figured out what causes the problem, much as was the case with the latest Apex Legends god launch glitch. According to reports, the bug is triggered whenever a Revenant player places their Death Totem ability close to a wall on a slope. Stairs, too, seem to cause the issue in some cases.

Game-breaking bugs are practically a given in almost every major content update for this game. Just a few days back, the community identified an issue with Apex Legends Bloodhound skin leveling feature, making it impossible to prestige the character before a fix is deployed. That said, breaking map boundaries through the use of relatively common and previously-reliable abilities seems like a more pressing issue at this time.

Problems such as this one are particularly egregious at this time, as there’s a big Apex Legends anniversary event running right now. With a bunch of skins, charms, and holosprays to unlock, Revenant users will need to carefully consider whether they want to risk “reviving” their teammates underneath the map in the first place.

Even though getting sent to the Shadow Realm by your own teammate doesn’t necessarily qualify as “fun,” Apex Legends is a popular free-to-play game that keeps attracting new players on a regular basis. Respawn Entertainment is highly likely to patch up this particular issue in the shortest order possible, so Revenant fans may wish to wait for a hot fix before putting down any further Death Totems on sloped terrain.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are currently in active development.
