The release dates for some of Sony Pictures Classics’ most eagerly awaited dramas, including The Son, have been revealed. The latter follows Hugh Jackman’s (Logan’s) efforts to improve his relationship with his estranged child. The film’s debut has been set for November 11 according to the production firm.
The late 2022 release date is a clear indication that Sony Pictures Classics is confident in the film’s ability to generate buzz and, perhaps, win some awards in early 2023. The Son’s chances of standing noticed are undoubtedly not harmed by the impressive cast: Along with Jackman, who has been nominated for an Academy Award and won a Tony Award, the film also stars two-time Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins (Thor: Ragnarok), Laura Dern (Jurassic World Dominion), a winner of an Academy Award and an Emmy, and Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One).
Aside from this incredibly skilled cast, Florian Zeller’s direction is also highly regarded. The Father, a cinematic adaptation of the French director’s original play, starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman, first appeared in 2020. The film received praise from all over the world for its heartbreaking and brilliant depiction of dementia. The Son is a sequel to The Father and was also adapted from the stage.
